It came to my attention today that some folks had not heard of 'Lords of the Rhymes'. Basically its rap music with Tolkien-inspired themes and lyrics. Depending on your like or dislike of rap music, and level of Tolkien nerdiness, you may either love it or hate it. But either way you have to admit they are pretty creative. IIRC Peter Jackson actually went to a Tolkien fan party the night after he won the academy award rather than just go to the studio party, and these guys were playing at the fan party. Gotta like Peter Jackson just for hangin' with the Tolkien crew Their first music video is here (warning, R-rated language, not for the kiddies): www.youtube.com/watch?v=2f86R_Z0_xIThey have a website too if you google it. I think maybe their 15 minutes are past and they are going to sail into the west, but it was fun while it lasted; maybe they wait to depart for good until after the Hobbit movie "Elf booty got soul! Elf girls like to rock and roll!"

I heard of this but never got around to it. I'll have to check it out. I like some of the 'pre commercialization' era of rap and "R+B". But not necessarily as music; i like it in the same way I like punk rock (before you could buy it as a brand at the mall) and noise music. More about the *ethos* than necessarily the sound. Strange this, I had a guy send me some of his tracks yesterday; it was a combination of really abrasive yet trippy noise music and freestyle rap and rhyme. It was some of the more interesting music that dates past 1400 AD I've heard recently.

Hah! Brilliant. Smarter than 90% of the 'real music' out there. Gollum was the best. you may enjoy this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oApvZLUn-lo&feature=relatedSchelmish, a german middle-ages music band who raps "douce dame jolie" a famous "love ballad" of the 14th century, allegedly written about a prostitute/dominatrix. the lyrics are arcane and recited in French, so no 'bad word' alarms here.
