This portion of the forum was originally intended for dedicated role-playing discussion and in character interaction. Lets keep it for that from now on. To facilitate this I'll post this little RP oriented anecdote... Try it, You Just May Like It.
Bragi got lost in the shire last night.
I mean lost. He had no clue where he was. He just wandered... Among the rolling hills, flickering gold window lamps, under the great white orb of the moon and among thousands of stars.
He passed a wolf in a field, but it didn't attack.
And then ahead he saw the lights of Michel Delving, and headed in that direction. There on the road he met some fellow travelers... He chatted briefly and exchanged niceties about wanderings within The Shire, and the dangers inherent on the nearby roads. And then spotted a horse heading to a stable, beyond the town square. That was what he had been searching for, for nearly half an hour...
How did I manage this? I played in "full immersion mode". I completely hid my UI (F12) and zoomed into first person. I felt like I was truly, for the first time in a long time, in a role playing game. More so, I felt like I had stepped into Middle-earth. Getting lost was a blast. I noticed details in the scenery that had utterly escaped me before. Try it some time. The world doesn't seem so claustrophobic and neatly laid out when wandering without a compass, map, and thousands of bits of digital text flashing by. A bit dangerous out in the lone-lands without your auto attack hot-keys and 3-D round view? You bet. Dare I say, it may change the way you perceive your game experience.
