In case you hadn't heard... a few of the Pillagers took a nice leisurely stroll through the Great Barrow last evening...
My years of serving in the Army prepared me for battle, but I learned a lot about fighting in a small group. I thank you all for the lessons!
So... we entered the fell place with little fanfare or hardship. The smell of the place caused a few of us to gag or retch, but we steadied ourselves for the challenge and pressed forwards.
We were doing fine until suddenly, one of the hired help ran forward and aroused the anger of some foul spiders and before anyone was prepared a gang of 4 of the largest and ugliest spiders I'd seen had descended upon us and we were forced to retreat.
We took stock of ourselves and when next we faced the fearsome four, we were ready for them and we vanquished them quickly and nearly effortlessly.
The rest of our journey in that foul place went rather smoothly. We found both sides of the key to the dark heart of the Barrow and returned to Bree, where I must admit, I got rather turned around as I'm quite often misplacing my map of Bree and getting a little lost. Big cities are quite confusing to me at times. I was stuck in Rivendell for a day searching for both the stables and the armory. Have you seen Rivendell?! It's magnificent!
Back to the story... We returned to the Barrow to take down the dark beast that's holding sway in there and I must say... the team was like a well oiled machine. We met stiff resistence, but overcame it and we finally came to the evil.
We attacked! And were doing quite well when suddenly my world started hiccuping for lack of a better word. I'd find myself fighting the evil when suddenly he wasn't there and I was swinging at empty space. I'd run to get back into the fray and found the evil had summoned friends and had caused one of our members to lose hope. We backed away and regrouped... When we went to press the attack again, the ground felt like it fell away from our feet. We recovered and attacked for a 3rd time and again, the ground shook and most of our team had disappeared.... I however was not so fortunate... I found myself by myself in front of the evil... When the team had recovered, we had a quick huddle to discuss strategy and attacked for the last time.
It was a monumental battle. Narika and I took the attack to the evil and made him split his attention to the 2 of us. With the striking arrows of the hunters and the morale building songs, we quickly had the evil beaten to half of his life. Then he summoned his fell helpers. I left Narika and attacked his helpers so that the less armored members of our team could concentrate on Narika and the evil and before we knew it the helpers were gone and I was taking the battle back to the evil and then it was over.
WE WERE VICTORIOUS!

((WOW! is that place bugged or what?! First there was the lag issue on the first attack which was totally my computer's fault, it had to pick then to start downloading my netcasts and videocasts, but then on the second and third attempts, lotroclient.exe crashed on EVERYONE the first time and most of us the second time. After everyone had left, I took a quick tour of the Barrow alone to pick up a couple of chalices -- still need 1 dangit -- And when I went back into the Final room I crashed again!
Thanks for the experience all! I learned a bunch, looking forward to doing it again!))
