Greetings All, Now for a few general thoughts and questions regarding the Kinship structure. At this point, looking at it - I like everything I see. I think us four 'founding' members are all on the same page as to what we want to experience in Middle-earth, and at what pace. The charter and policies are fine, fine, fine. And the boards look great. Now for the reflections and questions... (*cue serious music*) actually, they aren't very serious... When we take an office we make an RP based avatar should our 'main' not suit the race or task. This sounds fine. Do we adopt that persona on the boards? I have an elf name already chosen that I plan to grab at open beta. I would like to do the RP office and the elf character in mind (LM or Hunter) would be suited. Quite honestly I'll eventually have an alt of every race likely. I like them all enough in ME to do so. What is the general plan - or not - for recruitment? Do we openly post about the existence of the fellowship or keep it a kind of closed community until we find people we think are compatible? Are we going to have an age limit? Honestly I'd prefer this to be an 18 + kinship. For any of the drama that has erupted in Relic, at least we don't have to stress about being sued by someone's parents if things get a little out of hand in a friendly fashion. That is all I can think of at the moment...

I am starting to be concerned that the different race thing may be confusing, but to come up with titles for the 4 positions.
I mulled over the age limit thinking and have decided that I would rather leave things open, I think, however any member that is a disciplinary problem...I was thinking that they would be charged and go before an RP tribunal...with a prosecutor and a defense representative. This would A) cull out any riff raff...and B) open up some interesting RP opportunities
I will put the Drama has a place in your stories not your kinship interaction clause in the charter.
I would like to post on the Beta Boards for general recruitment, I would like to embrace and be embraced by the community prior to release...but would like to know opinions there.

I think my gut reaction is still to set an arbitrary age limit and put a clause in that some exceptions will be made on a case by case basis, and then bend it as we see fit for individuals. Most people who are the 18 year old juvi-thugs will right away steer clear. Most others if really serious will inquire. I love the RP Tribunal thing and I think that will work for those whose *characters* transgress. I don't think that will help the "EFF UR MOM" strata of player should they slip past our filters. I think we'll just end up punting them all the way to Mordor. > I tend to agree making a different race alt for an office could lead to confusion. It would be fine if the characters were our permanent 'officers' and only left for RP reasons. But if we're going to switch up every few months (good idea!) then I think keeping a title is a better plan. Advertising on the boards pre launch is a good idea. I would however stress the medium-heavy RP aspect and the code of conduct in the post. This should weed (HAH!) out those who won't fit in.

well I guess we will probably just come up with titles for the 4 jobs...
I don't like making "exceptions", this only leads to elitist attitudes and hard feelings. The other thing I have learned is that age doesn't really act as a filter...some of the biggest jerks I met in WoW were in their 30s...I think that the mod-heavy RP will weed out the 1337 speakers...and the fact that we are not racing to be an endgame world first raiding guild (although we will raid when the time comes) should make us unnatractive to the sort you are describing. I was a very respectful (until you earned my disrespect RPer when I was 11 or 12, but mebbe this is just the Hobbit-optimist speaking). I wish more folks would chime in on this issue...

Heh... well I know at least one of them may not be able to chime in until 9:00 pm tonight. So...
Point taken on the hard feelings and elitism. I guess that is part of what has happened with exceptions and what not in other environments we are already familiar with. My only issue is that while you've seen I am fully capable of monitoring my sense of humor and off color commentary, I never want to feel like I have to censor myself completely due to having to worry about 'kids' in the guild... Though I am gathering that isn't your aim in all this. Lets wait to see what others say, when they can...

My ears are burning I like the idea of having titles transfer between people, and not necessarily limiting them to a specific race. While having a different avatar for the title is interesting, it could be confusing. It might limit the avatar's involvement in game, if level is an issue (i.e., if the avatar is permanently at level 2). I would be fine with a strict age limit. If 18 is too high, we could go with 16. We've all met exceptions, sure... but I can see advantages in having a guild of mostly adults. I think once the boards are ready to go, and we've discussed and editted the charter as needed, we should go ahead and post on the beta forums and hopefully attract some like-minded individuals.

Yeah I'll be honest. I prefer the company of "adults" (ok ok we know many 40 year olds in MMOs don't act like adults) in the legal sense - in these games. I'm not overtly War-vets rude or anything like that. But I just prefer the general tone of groups composed of peoeple who are at least *young adults*. I was RPing table top with older folks at a young age - but I also know that I was exceptional in that I could do that and not seem like a snotty kid. I'm just good at that now.

I really would rather go with a mature attitude clause than a set age...and as far as censoring yourself, shame on you...This is not in the 7 kingdoms of George RR this is Middle Earth...I have never heard of a swearing Hobbit...although I wouldn't be surprised if Feanor swore when Morgorth stole the silmarils. ;D
I personally, like kids...keeps me from becoming a coddgedy old gaffer...at least respectful ones.

Kids are fine, as long as I can send them home with their parents. Oh I'm not worried about what my characters will say. I'm more worried about what may pop out of my mouth in voice chat!

well...having met you...I am not cocerned that you have such a limited vocabulary as that...I think of all the conversations I have heard in vent and have heard very little harsh language, from anyone. I don't think there is much you could or would say that teenagers haven't heard before...I am not sure I have ever even heard you curse, myself...so I don't think it is a big enough issue to possibly miss out on a few folks...secondly...from my two experiences with RP oriented guilds...The RPA in EQOA and Rotten Luck (yes it was pretty RP for a long while)...kids flat out don't want to join...or if they do, they are good members (ie. Tisud in Rotten Luck and briefly from our RPA days Jwiz)...anyway that is my experience....I would agree if we were a progression kinship...but I think you have just as much of a chance of offending an adult mormon member (for instance) as a kid.

This looks good to me. Rhavaniel's email access during the day is often non-existant.

Yes. Yes it does!!! Howdy, fair Pills...er...PoPs...Pipes...Pips...Weeds? Don't have a fitting avatar as of yet as I need to get a better feel for the character, first. Probably won't get in until the Open Beta starts 3/30. Might also be a rough time-wise time as that is about the time our exchange teacher will be arriving and living with us for 3 weeks.

hi there all! i must admit i'm not a board troll i will try to post as much as i can to the boards, but to be honest, when i'm online i'm playing the game! as for the age limit....let's just see who subscribes. I agree that maturity is more important than age. so far the charter looks great to me! another point we need to get on the same page about is crafting. to be honest i think if your main isn't a crafter he should be a gatherer to help out the guild at large. we should have a bank for all materials that are gathered that can be distributed as needed. i wouldn't mind keeping up the bank character if need be. remember in this game you don't farm drops....you buy from crafters if you want something really special.
