I was wandering 'pon the road from Brandywine to Bree, My lute played a song of spring, one so sweet and merry, my lyrics though did not quite match bemoaning the missing ferry, My song was suddenly interrupted as I came upon this lad, A mail shirt and buckler long within this bloke was clad, I asked him what his name was, he seemed just from the shire, He told me that my song was horrid and I should forever retire my lyre, I laughed at him his sulky face and said my name is Elindar, He knew a little Sindarin and called me the song of a star, I ruffled his hair and grabbed him by the shoulder, he seemed to take offense of this and threw me into a boulder, I said, "I am sorry dear hobbit, I really didn't mean to offend." "Perhaps we should start over and have a new meeting to pretend" He looked up at me with cheery eyes, and the drew a pipe to my surprise, "Here have some of the finest pipeweed in the land" I reached down to him and took a pinch and then I shook his hand, "Please forgive my wariness Zhongo is my name, he told" "It is my fault on the dangerous road, I should not have been so bold" So we stood there for a good long while a tokin' on our pipe, And from there came a friendship that quickly became so ripe.
Please forgive me this story, I am still quite an inexperienced minstrel, though I promise that one day my pieces will be worthy of your reading.
