I want my computer back! I want to run Vent without it repeatedly erroring out my mic so that no one can hear me! I want the guy looking at it to tell me what's wrong with it, and fix it. Now. (I need more than: "Your network traffic was much higher. Were you letting someone route through your network?" No, d**n it, and that would seem to be part of the problem, don't you think? I hate stupid questions.)
Patience is not my strong suit.
*grumble*

Let us know if your computer guy doesn't get your machine fixed. If you just have a bunch of junk software and your computer needs a cleanup, I might be able to help you remotely (I do remote support for rl clients all the time...). Anyhow, I know a few of us are tech weenie's so if your computer isn't satisfactory, give us some details and maybe we can help!

Anyhow, I know a few of us are tech weenie's so if your computer isn't satisfactory, give us some details and maybe we can help! Thanks, Thel! I greatly appreciate the offer. Hopefully, I'll be getting the machine back tomorrow or Friday - I think now it's just a point of matching schedules with the guy so I can pick it up. There *was* a trojan horse on it, which annoys the crap out of me, but it seems no permanent damage was done. There were some hidden taunting messages about the hacker's activities - seems like my machine was running invisible browsers among other things. (A phone call about repeated hits to my credit union personal login from anon sites was a first warning sign.) What a joy. I do have the satisfaction of knowing it wasn't my network and/or security setup, since we know how the machine was infected. That is being looked into... I suppose one "major" incident in 15 years isn't too bad of a record, but I'll be very happy to have my computer back, with all my junk on it. ;D
