"Sire, we've reinforced the South wall, but we've not the resources to do an adequate job on the Eastern one.", the Sergeant reported. Jazwulf did not even gaze at the man, he simply nodded that he had heard and understood. After a few moments of silence between them, Jazwulf spoke, "Have your men tear down the SouthEastern most stock house. Use the materials there to help reinforce the walls. Be sure to have the Archers in threes, while the men do the repairs. I do not want them, or us, to be caught unawares."
"Very well Sire!", and with a click of his heels, the Sergeant spun and left to carry out his new orders. While Jazwulf gazed at the men around him. They were tired, and weary. They had been with him, at this forsaken outpost for almost a year and a half now. Seen countless battles, raids, and losses. They were good men, though. Tough, and followed orders well.
"You spend too much time in your thoughts, Jaz." .. a soft voice said from over his shoulder. A sweet smell of jasmine mixed with summer rain reached his nose.... and he smiled. "It is what keeps me alive, Cyn. Or so I believe." He turned toward the graceful and beautiful woman before him. "To what do I owe the honor of your presence?"
She smiled, and then her smile faded slowly into a frown. "As much as I would like to have spoken kinder words.... I'm afraid the news I have is not good. There is an army approaching from the South, about 2 days march out." She lowered her eyes to the ground. "I ... I wanted to be sure that you knew, and of course to see you again."
He placed a firm hand on her elbow, and squeezed gently. "You, as always, have my endless gratitude. This information, shall serve us well." With that, Jazwulf spun and started to walk off.
"Where do you go?" she asked?
"To prepare for another battle.", he replied.
"My bow is yours.", she stated.
"As my heart is yours, Cyn.... As my heart is yours.".. as he disappeared into the crowd of men he started motioning toward him.
