Dear sir or madam,
Greetings and salutations. I am writing this letter to request membership in your fine organization, and leaving it with the proprietor of the Floating Log in Frogmorton on his assurance that it will reach you, eventually. Before elaborating on my reasons for being in the West, I would like to note that your pastoral Shire (whose residents are renowned at my home under the Lonely Mountain as both resourceful and possessing of most well-developed pallets) and top-shelf pipeweed remain a light of hope in an otherwise darkening world.
This darkening is, in point of fact, the cause for my presence in Eriador. Even as reports that Orodruin had again erupted in the East reached us in Erebor, conflicting rumors of trouble in the North arrived from beyond the Misty Mountains. A number of dwarves began to grow uneasy, with memories of the Battle of Five Armies (of which you may have heard through your Most Esteemed Mr. Bilbo Baggins) and certain other portents, whose details are of relevance only to the Kingdom under the Mountain, still fresh in many of their minds. My brother Forin and I were two of several younger dwarves who volunteered to leave King Dain's (may his beard grow ever longer) halls and seek to uncover more substantial knowledge of this new threat.
We journeyed west to Ered Luin, called the Blue Mountains, and spoke at length with kin residing there in Thorin's Hall. Led by my honored brother, all of the party but I traveled back east with news of the Dourhands' unforgivable betrayal. On the advice of our cousins there and in light of complications which do not need to be elaborated herein, I elected to remain behind and travel south to the Bree-land in search of more information on the Dourhands' master. To this end and in the hope of personally helping to combat the rising shadow, I hereby request to join your most excellent kinship. I may be reached via post to the Prancing Pony Inn, Bree-Town.
((And this is why posting on no sleep is a bad idea. I seem to have forgotten to include any OOC data. So without further ado:
Previous MMORPGs: Anarchy Online, City of Heroes/Villains, Final Fantasy XI [briefly], World of Warcraft, Tabula Rasa, EVE Online
RP Experience: Very little. I RPed in Anarchy Online years ago, and had a good time. I didn't feel comfortable trying in other games, but lotro really seems to encourage it. As such I'd love to get involved on the RP-side, but may be rather rusty to start off with.
Tolkein/Lore/Etc: I've read the trilogy a couple times, the Silmarillion twice, and the Hobbit three or so times. Since this has been over the course of maybe 5 years, I make no claims to having the encyclopedic knowledge of the setting that I've seen some other demonstrate.
Playtimes: I'm in the EST timezone, and generally play during the day and after 9PM. My exact schedule tends to be rather unpredictable due to shifting workloads Regardless, I'm generally online at least 6 hours per week, and frequently more.
What I'm looking for in a kinship: I'm not a big fan of giant, raid-oriented groups that treat you as little more than a collection of statistics. I'm looking for a nice group of people with senses of humor to RP with, run quests, and generally have a good time exploring middle-earth.
A little about me: I'm a college graduate student in Massachusetts, majoring in Computer Science. I write a little on the side, go hiking and climbing when the weather permits it, and can generally be expected to be at least mildly inebriated if I end up online after midnight or so on Fridays ))
