We thought we would give everyone an update on Garfield. He is recovering fast from surgery & has one more week of confinement. I did not mention previously that he also has kidney disease which we manage 2x/day with sub.q. fluids. Because of this disease he is also anemic. Last week his red blood cell count went dangerously low & he had to have a transfusion. We hope this will stimulate his system to make more on it's own as the benefits of the transfusion only last 3-4 weeks & he can only have so many of them. The cancer had metastasized in one of his lymph nodes so he is facing chemo in a few weeks. They tell us cats do not lose their hair, nor do they get sick from it. But we are worried because it's possible it may affect his red blood cell count & his kidneys, both of which are already a problem. He had his 13th birthday on Sunday and is a happy cat again right now. The gals at the vet's office gave him a bag full of toys & treats & a birthday card. I think they love him as much as we do because he is so sweet. So, if things continue to go well, we should be back in Middle Earth in about a week. We could sure use some R&R & hope you haven't forgotten us. Loryela

That's awful. I hope things pan out for the best. I recently had a cat I'd known for twenty years pass away. Twenty years! Can you believe it? He was 18 or so when they found some cancer, and being so old, we didn't want to risk the anesthetic. *sigh* Twenty years. d**n cat.
His name was Twirl.

Sorry to hear this news. I hope your dear Garfield heals quickly and he is back to running around getting into things like normal kitties soon enough.
Crossing fingers & lots of paws over here that Garfield gets well soon.
