A Traveler
A slender hooded figure slowly walked toward the entrance to a magnificent entrance hall of the Shire kinship house . While traveling and stopping to rest at a few taverns, she had heard whispers of the great hall and of the group that lived there, The Pillagers of Pipeweed. And since she was near, she decided to make the trip to satisfy her curiosity of what she had heard. She had to see for herself.
The figure wore a wide brimmed hat that covered her hair completely. Her clothing was simple, leather tunic over leather leggings, with no adornments at all. On her back was slung a long spear and shield. A small-gloved hand held a plain but oddly shaped shepherd’s bag as the stranger cautiously approached one of the hobbits stationed near.
“Mae govannen, sir. I am a weary traveler seeking shelter for the evening. I have been traveling for over seven days and at the last inn at which I stayed, an elf had let it be known that anyone traveling this way would be welcomed to stay here for the night.”
The gentle melodic voice that came from the petite figure sounded fatigued. The small hobbit nodded curtly before leading her in to a small bench. As the traveler set down her pack, the hobbit handed her a parchment. Taking it hesitantly, she quickly read it, “Oh, but I’m not here for …” But he was no longer there.
With a soft sigh, the traveler pushed back the brim of her hat and bent her head to read the parchment carefully, “Ah well,” she spoke softly to herself, “Perhaps this will answer some of my questions.”
A lock of hair brushed her pale cheek and she quickly tucked it out of sight as she reached a hand into her pack. She pulled out a small apple and frowned slightly mumbling to herself, “Not much of a dinner but better than nothing.” She pushed the bag, leaving it open to reveal the slender neck of the lute that she carried within.
She read the parchment carefully while taking a bite from the apple. It was mostly for information, not what she had thought. She had heard quite a bit about this group, all good, but still she wanted to know more. What their leader was like? Or the officers and if so, how they all came to be? The members, who were they? And the kin itself, what stories were told, their legends or songs?
She was of a curious nature and quite fond of history and lore, especially of others. She delighted in meeting others and listening to their stories.
Her stomach growled and she glared at the apple core, wishing there was more. If only she had not given her roast sandwich to the street urchin, but the poor little child looked so forlorn she simply could not walk away without doing something.
She tossed the apple core into her bag and looked about curiously. It was quiet and late but she was not sleepy. Surely it would not hurt to look around. Perhaps there was a library or gallery showing more about this kin. Or maybe she might run into someone who would either answer her questions or better yet, even feed her growling stomach.
So it was with that thought that she quietly stood up and made her way deeper into the kin house…
((ooc. First let me say what a wonderful forum you have here. I have been visiting several RP guild websites, just lurking about and watching with interest. Your guild has a fine reputation within the game itself.
I was delighted to know that three good friends of mine from SWG were in the kinship. Lorenia, Akor, and Katarnus always had such good things to say about the Pillagers. After thinking it over, I contacted them and asked what I needed to do (sponsorship, etc) and next thing I knew I got the window popup!
Kat and Lorenia explained the application process and I consider joining any guild a very personal matter, a decision that I do not take lightly, so I decided to wait a week before posting.
In just a week’s time, I have been welcomed with such warmness and generosity that I now understand what Kat, Lorenia and Akor have been talking about. The people in the kinship are amazing and it has made my gaming in LOTRO just so much more enjoyable!
I am a very casual gamer, having played EQ2, WoW, SWG and CoX. SWG was my first foray into role-playing and I enjoy it very much.
I look forward to meeting more of the kin! Thank you for considering my application and taking the time to read my short story - I tried to keep it short, honestly!! ))
