This has been a long time coming. I first has my suspicions when Turbine decided to run with Forochol, which really has nothing to do with anything. Why did they do this? To gain hype, I imagine. Rather than revamping the Misty Mountains, they wanted to plug a new area to gain sales. Huh.
K...all in all, for a grind fest, it certainly looked pretty. It was like my last girlfriend...it took me a while to realize how vapid it was cause I was overcome with the beauty and by the time I realized it, man was I committed.
But that I can forgive it. It was at least entertaining. (so was said ex girlfriend, emphasis on ex) Than came the Balrog...they could have done anything...a tough ogre, two tough ogres, a tough ogre bonanza, or, hell, seeing as how it was agmar, I dunno, something to do with the books, ie, orcs, but they wanted a Balrog. Now they have a Balrog on farm status. *ear to the wind* If you listen closely, you can actually hear Dr Tolkien tumbling around in his grave. A few jack-asses in armour vs an ancient evil, we come out fine. They could have led us through a scene where we saw, never fought, a balrog. It could have been an interesting scene in Moria. Now, he's a seldom run instance. Wow...just wow. Where do we go from here? Sauron drops what phatt lewt now?
Now, Moria I felt, was great...if hard. I mean, the content was great, the graphics, great, the story, great...but the combat system revamp had no fore-sight. This company knew, from the beginning, once we hit 50, we would have to progress through other books. It was inevitable. What did they do? Ignored it. We had incredible power, but it was, for the most part, well balanced...however, when it came to expansion, where do we go? Turbine's answer was....way back down. How do we get back to a semblance of where we were? We grind traits for hours, we get gear that takes the place of skill...essentially, we play World of Turbine-craft. If I wanted to play this game, i would be off playing wow. At least they don't flip when someone questions them and brands them as heretics to Tolkien.
It's not about easy mode content, its about how we played to get through it...now, it's gear and traits. Doesn't matter as much how we play, its how we spent out last 3 month subscription, mindlessly grinding to give turbine money. Do I even have to mention how crafting ended up?
What has become of this game? One ring, to sell them all. This is not the game I enjoyed, where I could go out and just have a grand ol time, tanking any instance I could, and doing it well, based on my skill. This isn't the game with the engaging story I once knew. Sure, it had it's flaws, but those flaws, up until recently, were the game-play. Now, its the game play. Fact of the matter, I'm not having fun. I am not the only one.
I feel as if I needed to make this post before I fade into obscurity. I've made some friends, and I appreciate all that you've done for me, but I also know you at least humor me when it comes to issues troubling me, and this is a pretty major issue, and I can assure you, I'm not the only one who thinks so, and I feel better now that it's been said.
If anyone wants to take over Olmandis' house and stuff, it should be open to the guild, just make the payments, place is yers, with all the stuff in it to do what you will. I will miss the people, I will miss what the game was, and could have been. I will not miss what it seems to have become.
I officially retire Olmandis and my other characters. Take care all.
