well my parents bought me the 5 disc (or more actually, 5 versions plus extra) blade runner set on blu-ray. now i'll have to go get a blu-ray player, dammit! (I put it on my amazon wishlist, they actually looked at it this year) I can't decide whether to get a ps3, or a player/burner for my computer. My 8600 gts has h.264 hardware decoding already, which is why I bought it instead of the 8800. So really I should use the computer. but a ps3 is the same price as a burner, but only 200-250 more than most players for your computer. Of course ps3, or standalone player, mean extra boxes.

Is your computer attached to your Largest TV and Surround Sound System? I was telling Ony earlier that I am loving the PS3 games that we have: Heavenly Sword, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ratchet and Clank, and The Orange Box. Some of these of course aren't exclusive, actually I think The Orange Box is the only non-exclusive actually. so...

Make sure you've got Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate before you consider going the PC route. AND a display that's connected by HDMI. As I recall, unless it's changed, the BluRay players for XP will NOT play at full quality and if you're using Vista and you don't have an HDMI display, it'll actively "downsample" the video quality because it can't "trust" the display.
Maybe Microsoft changed that, but I remember a huge gripe about the movie companies getting Microsoft to capitulate and destroy the video if it's not played on a "trusted channel" from start to finish.

Ah, here we go. From a review on Amazon...
So, it's the HDCP stuff you need. It at least comes with player software. Oh, and I think all the BluRay drives out there are SATA, as IDE wouldn't have the throughput to play the movies.

yep got all that. My monitor is only 22" , my big one is in the shop. I've owned it more than 2 years and it's worked only 3 months out of that time.sigh
or I could fund my 2008 iras, or take some more improv or carnegie course or something that will require me to leave my condo rather than play games.... crazy talk, I know.

I suggest you join an Ice Hockey Team...adult Ice Hockey is great Aerobic and most teams have a doctor or two on them, so if something bad happens...

PS....I am surprised that you are eligible to make a tax deductible IRA contribution...unless your employer doesn't offer a qualified plan.

no i can only do Roth IRA. i know you like the 401k first but I am not confident taxes will remain as low as they are for long. but meh. who knows my parents were saying Congress has been talking about taxing pensions. actually maybe that's an argument for using tax deductible.

I like a 401k best if it has a Safe Harbor type clause or has 25% or higher match and a short vesting schedule
